In our Climate Design class, we had the chance to connect with some organizations that are dedicated to addressing food waste issues.

— background context

Boston Area Gleaners: In 2015, they gleaned more than 360,000 pounds of produce in 66 crop types from 54 farms.

Food Forward: In total, the organization has rescued nearly 20 million pounds of produce.

Food Recovery Network: Since 2011, this student-led movement has recovered more than 1,300,000 pounds of food.

Through our conversations, it became evident that these organizations face challenges in gaining visibility and recognition for their impactful initiatives.

- Street Interviews

“I don’t know about these food waste solutions organizations.”

How might we raise the visibility of those food waste solution organizations to ensure broader awareness and engagement?

solution

“Food Waste” is a heavy topic, but FOOD is not!

Among all potential solutions, we ended up designing a food event to raise quick visibility for food waste solution partners.

  • positive atmosphere

  • attract media attention

  • in-person engagement

Design Deliverables

The design phase aimed to create an engaging food event experience that connects food waste solution organizations and the local audience.

Event Branding - visual identidy

Development of a unique logo and visual elements that reflected sustainability and unity among the partners.

To encourage attendance, we made both physical and digital materials that effectively communicated the event details.

Event Branding - website(homepage)

Clear presentation of event information, showcasing the partners and emphasizing the sustainable theme.

Event Logistics - email notifications

Engaging and informative email notifications are sent to potential attendees and partners, providing key details and encouraging participation.

Event Logistics - event guide

For a better event experience and engagement, the event guide was designed as a piece of handy information.
